Mooresville Pioneers Varsity Football Week One "Senior Night" Final: Mooresville- 34 Columbus East- 21 The Mooresville Pioneers ushered in Head Coach Casey Gillin's innaugural season at the helm of the Pioneers with a 34-21 home win over the Columbus East Olympians on Senior Night as the Mooresville Pioneers Football Program and Mooresville High School celebrated the Class Of 2027. Mooresville started the scoring on their first drive on the 2026 regular season as quarterback Eli Hill found wide receiver Keagan Burch from 20 yards out (PAT- Owen Hopkins) to give the Pioneers an early 7-0 lead. The Olympians responded and tied the game at seven with an 18 yard score of their own to close out the first quarter 7-7. Mooresville would take the lead back early in the second quarter on a 10 yard run by Talan Dobkins (PAT- Hopkins) to put the Pioneers up 14-7. Owen Hopkins tacked on three more with a field goal to push the Pioneers lead to 17-7. Columbus East would score 14 unanswered points to take the lead midway through the second quarter, 21-17. The Pioneers closed out the half on a 23 yard touchdown pass from Eli Hill to Keagan Burch (PAT- Hopkins) to take a 24-21 lead into halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, Mooresville's offense would find the endzone once again in the fourth quarter as Eli Hill hit Cooper Jones for a 23 yard touchdown pass (PAT- Hopkins) to put the Pioneers up ten, 31-21. Owen Hopkins kicked his second field goal of the night late in the fourth quarter and sealed the 34-21 "Senior Night" win. After allowing 21 points in the first half, the Pioneers defense made a few half time adjustments and responed in the second half, shutting out the Olympians on the heels of six takeaways. Mooresvilles defense recovered three Columbus East fumbles and intercepted the Olympians three times to finish the game plus three in the turnover battle. Friday's win is the third consecutive regular season week one victory for the Pioneers dating back to the 2024-2025 season. The Mooresville Pioneers are back in action on Friday August 28th and will travel to Terre Haute North to take on the Patriots, kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
