Mooresville High School Athletic Department Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week August 17th – August 22nd The Mooresville High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week for August 17th – August 22nd. This recognition is awarded weekly to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate excellence across all areas of competition during the previous week of athletic contests. Pendill Wealth Management is committed to celebrating the hard work and achievements of Mooresville student-athletes while continuing to support the growth and success of the athletic department. The Mooresville Athletic Department is grateful for its partnership with BJ Pendill and Pendill Wealth Management in recognizing and honoring our outstanding student-athletes each week. Athlete of the Week – Girl’s Volleyball – Meadow Morancey, Junior This week’s Athlete of the Week is junior captain Meadow Morancey, whose leadership and clutch defensive play helped lead the Pioneers to the Early Bird Invitational Championship. Meadow stepped up when her team needed her most during the championship match. With the Pioneers trailing 24–21 and facing match point, Meadow made a tremendous diving defensive play to keep the rally—and Mooresville’s championship hopes—alive. That play helped spark an incredible comeback as the Pioneers fought off multiple match points, rallied to win the match, and brought home the Early Bird Invitational trophy. While that diving save provided one of the biggest moments of the tournament, Meadow’s impact goes far beyond a single play. Her defensive performance throughout the championship match was instrumental in the comeback, consistently giving her teammates opportunities to stay in rallies and make plays. As a team captain, Meadow also sets the tone with her attitude and leadership. She displays tremendous sportsmanship, is quick to encourage her teammates, and is often the first person there to pick someone up when things aren't going their way. Her ability to remain positive and composed in pressure situations is a major asset to the team. Meadow’s combination of leadership, toughness, sportsmanship, and clutch performance helped the Pioneers open their season with a championship and makes her a well-deserving Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week – Football – Keagan Burch, Junior This week’s Athlete of the Week is junior wide receiver and safety Keagan Burch, who made an impact on both sides of the football in the Pioneers’ 34–21 season-opening victory over Columbus East. Offensively, Keagan led the way with 6 receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He opened the scoring for Mooresville with a 20-yard touchdown reception and struck again with a 26-yard touchdown that gave the Pioneers a 24–21 advantage heading into halftime. His ability to make plays in key moments provided a major spark for the Pioneer offense. Keagan was just as valuable on the other side of the ball, starting at safety for a Mooresville defense that shut out Columbus East for the entire second half. His ability to contribute at a high level on both offense and defense showcased his versatility, toughness, and conditioning. Keagan’s success on Friday nights is a direct reflection of the work he puts in throughout the week. He carries himself with a quiet confidence, is extremely coachable, and consistently approaches practices and preparation with the right attitude. The effort he puts in Monday through Thursday continues to translate into results when the lights come on Friday night. For his two-way performance, preparation, and work ethic in helping the Pioneers start the season with a big victory, Keagan Burch is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week.
