Mooresville High School Athletic Department Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week August 24th – August 29th The Mooresville High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week for August 24th – August 29th. This recognition is awarded weekly to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate excellence across all areas of competition during the previous week of athletic contests. Pendill Wealth Management is committed to celebrating the hard work and achievements of Mooresville student-athletes while continuing to support the growth and success of the athletic department. The Mooresville Athletic Department is grateful for its partnership with BJ Pendill and Pendill Wealth Management in recognizing and honoring our outstanding student-athletes each week. Athlete of the Week – Girl’s Golf – Elizabeth Tiley, Junior This week’s Athlete of the Week is junior Elizabeth Tiley, whose outstanding play and relentless work ethic continue to be major factors in the success of the Mooresville Girls Golf team. Elizabeth highlighted her week with a career-best performance at the Vincennes Invitational, firing a personal-record 79 at High Pointe Country Club. Her round helped lead the Pioneers to an impressive 2nd-place team finish, just two strokes away from the championship. She also turned in solid performances during the week with a 42 against Cathedral at Maple Creek and a 48 against North Central at Heartland. Playing from the #2 position, Elizabeth’s consistency has been a huge part of a tremendous start for the Pioneers, who have compiled an impressive 30–7 record. She continues to provide dependable scores and has shown the ability to step up in competitive situations. Elizabeth’s success is a direct reflection of her dedication to improving her game. Her work ethic is second to none, as she is routinely the first player working on her chipping and putting before practice and often stays afterward to put in additional work. That commitment continues to show in her improvement and results on the course. With a new personal best and an increasingly important role in the Pioneers’ success, Elizabeth is proving that hard work pays off. For her performance, consistency, and dedication, Elizabeth Tiley is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week – Boy’s Tennis – Grayson Furniss, Senior This week’s Athlete of the Week is senior Grayson Furniss, whose strong play and outstanding leadership helped the Pioneers capture the Mooresville Invitational Championship. Grayson went 2–0 at #2 doubles during the Invitational, turning in two impressive performances. He and his doubles partner defeated Southport 6–2, 6–0 before earning a 6–1, 6–0 victory over Linton-Stockton. Those two victories provided important team points and directly contributed to Mooresville finishing the tournament as champions. Grayson’s success is even more impressive considering this is his first full season competing at the varsity level. After breaking into the varsity lineup for just a handful of matches late last season, Grayson has earned a regular varsity role as a senior and has continued to improve with each opportunity. Beyond his individual performance, Grayson demonstrated exactly what senior leadership should look like. In both Invitational matches, he was paired with a teammate who had never competed in a varsity match. Grayson provided steady leadership and encouragement, helping his partner adjust to varsity competition while maintaining a high level of play himself. His composure and positive presence helped both partnerships find immediate success. Grayson has become an invaluable member of the Pioneer Tennis program through his effort, determination, leadership, and willingness to help his teammates succeed. For his undefeated week and his role in helping Mooresville bring home the Invitational championship, Grayson Furniss is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week.
