Mooresville Athletics

The Mooresville Pioneers boys tennis team hosted West Vigo High School for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. In an extremely close varsity match, the Pioneers came away with a hard-fought 3-2 victory, while the JV team completed the evening with a 3-0 win. For the Pioneers varsity, Sam Mommeritz-Hijarrubia picked up a straight-set victory at #1 singles, while Baylor Query also won in two sets at #2 singles. With the overall match hanging in the balance, the #2 doubles team of Grayson Furniss and Xavier Browning secured the Pioneers' third point with a straight-set victory to help seal the 3-2 team win. At the JV level, Mason Galyan, Trajean Asher and Max Springsteen each picked up victories as the Pioneers swept West Vigo, 3-0. With the non-conference victory, the varsity improved to 4-7 overall, while the JV improved to 3-6 on the season. The Pioneers will cap off a long, hot week tomorrow when they travel to Plainfield for a Mid-State Conference matchup. Due to the excessive heat, the match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
