The MHS Boys Tennis team rode the wave of some early success to defeat Warren Central on Senior Night at the Pioneers' home court. The varsity team won by a score of 5-0, while the two JV teams battled to a 2-2 tie. For the varsity, Sam Mommertz won at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Baylor Query continued his fine winning streak with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. At No. 3 singles, Gavin Cooper held on for a 6-1, 6-2 victory. In doubles, Warren Central was able to put up its best effort of the night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Pioneers. At No. 1 doubles, Mooresville's Ben Coffey and Grayson Furniss battled early in the match, winning the first set 6-2 before finding the going a little easier in the second set, winning 6-1. The final varsity match of the night featured Wesley Hoffman and Xavier Browning. The pair did not disappoint, earning a hard-fought 6-3, 6-3 victory. At the JV level, Mooresville and Warren Central battled to a 2-2 tie. Winning for Mooresville in JV singles was Mason Galyan, who posted an impressive 8-0 victory. Max Springsteen and Trajen Asher teamed up at No. 2 JV doubles and earned an 8-1 victory. The Pioneers picked up their fifth overall win of the season, while the JV squad added another tie to its young-season record. The tennis team is next in action Wednesday, September 9, when the Pioneers travel to Avon for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup. A special thank-you goes out to all of our season athletes, managers, and parents for everything you do for our program. We appreciate your continued support!
