Mooresville Athletics

The Mooresville Boys Tennis Team traveled to Franklin Community High School for its final regular-season and Mid-State Conference match of the season. In an extremely close varsity match, the Pioneers came away with a 3-2 victory over the Grizzly Cubs. At #1 and #2 singles, Sam Mommertz and Baylor Query both turned in impressive performances, winning their matches in straight sets to give Mooresville two important points. With the team score tied 2-2, the match came down to #2 doubles, where senior Grayson Furniss and junior Xavier Browning were battling for the deciding point. After dropping the first set, Furniss and Browning responded by winning the second set to force a decisive third. With the entire match riding on the final set, Furniss and Browning played aggressively and confidently. They came through when it mattered most, winning the third set 6-4 to clinch the match and give the Pioneers a thrilling 3-2 victory. At the JV level, Franklin Community won the match 3-1. Mooresville's lone victory came from Mason Galyan at #1 JV singles. The Pioneers will now turn their attention to postseason play. Mooresville will host the IHSAA Sectional beginning Tuesday, September 29, at 5:30 p.m. The sectional field includes Mooresville, Greencastle, Martinsville, and South Putnam. The sectional draw will take place Sunday and can be viewed on IHSAAtv.org.
