Mooresville High School Athletic Department Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week September 21st – September 26th The Mooresville High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the Pendill Wealth Management Athletes of the Week for September 21st – September 26th. This recognition is awarded weekly to Mooresville student-athletes who demonstrate excellence across all areas of competition during the previous week of athletic contests. Pendill Wealth Management is committed to celebrating the hard work and achievements of Mooresville student-athletes while continuing to support the growth and success of the athletic department. The Mooresville Athletic Department is grateful for its partnership with BJ Pendill and Pendill Wealth Management in recognizing and honoring our outstanding student-athletes each week. Athlete of the Week – Girl’s Volleyball – Malyn Query, Freshman This week’s Athlete of the Week is freshman Malyn Query, whose strong play, work ethic, and leadership continue to make an impact for the Mooresville Volleyball team. Malyn put together an impressive week for the Pioneers, recording 36 assists and 13 digs across two matches. Her ability to run the offense while also contributing defensively has made her a valuable presence on the court throughout her freshman season. Her biggest performance of the week came in a victory over Speedway, where Malyn finished with 19 assists and 10 digs. Her all-around play helped the Pioneers battle their way to the win, providing consistency and helping put her teammates in position to be successful offensively. While her production stands out, Malyn’s approach in the gym has been equally impressive. Her work ethic is among the best on the team, and she consistently pushes herself to improve. Despite being only a freshman, Malyn has earned the responsibility of serving as a team captain, demonstrating leadership during both practices and matches. Malyn has already shown an impressive combination of talent, competitiveness, and maturity early in her high school career. For her 36-assist week, strong performance in the win over Speedway, and the leadership she continues to demonstrate as a freshman, Malyn Query is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week – Football – Eli Hill, Junior This week’s Athlete of the Week is junior quarterback Eli Hill, who delivered an outstanding performance in the Pioneers’ 49–28 Homecoming victory over Franklin Community. Eli completed 21 of 27 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Pioneer offense put 49 points on the board in the Mid-State Conference victory. He also contributed on the ground with 8 carries for 20 yards, directing the offense throughout a big night in front of the Homecoming crowd. The performance continued a strong junior season for Eli. Through six games, he has completed 97 of 166 passes for 1,222 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also provided another dimension with his legs, rushing 58 times for 263 yards and two touchdowns. His continued development has helped put the Pioneers in position to be successful each Friday night. Eli’s progress is a product of the work he puts in throughout the week. Quality practices and consistent film study have helped prepare him for the challenges he faces at quarterback. He is extremely coachable, approaches mistakes and difficult situations with a positive attitude, and has shown the ability to learn from one play and quickly move on to the next. As the season has progressed, Eli has also continued to grow as a leader. His confidence and understanding of the offense continue to improve, and his preparation throughout the week is translating into results on Friday nights. For his 323-yard, four-touchdown performance in the Homecoming victory and his continued growth as a quarterback and leader, Eli Hill is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week – Boy’s Soccer – Nolan Speaks, Sophomore This week’s Athlete of the Week is sophomore goalkeeper Nolan Speaks, whose outstanding play in goal helped the Pioneers earn two important victories without allowing a single goal. Nolan recorded his first clean-sheet week, holding the opposition scoreless across two matches. His work in goal was especially important as Mooresville picked up victories against both a Sectional opponent and a Mid-State Conference opponent, providing the Pioneers with momentum as the regular season begins to wind down. While the clean sheets stood out, Nolan was called upon to make several crucial saves throughout the week. He consistently came through when the Pioneers needed him, protecting leads and giving his team confidence that one goal could be enough to secure a victory. Nolan has also developed into a vocal and steady presence for the Pioneer defense. From his position in goal, he communicates with his teammates, helps organize the defense, and continues to grow in his ability to provide leadership on the field. After earning significant varsity experience as a freshman, Nolan has continued to develop during his sophomore season and is becoming an increasingly important part of the Pioneers’ success. For holding opponents scoreless over two matches, making crucial saves in two important victories, and providing a consistent presence for the Pioneer defense, Nolan Speaks is a well-deserving Athlete of the Week.
