Mooresville Pioneers Football Week 9 Varsity Final Mooresville Pioneers- 21 Perry Meridian Falcons- 17 Down three (17-14) fourth and goal from the five yard line with five seconds to play in the final regular season of the 2026 season. Initially the Pioneers sent out the field goal team to potentially force overtime, Perry Meridian called a timeout on fourth and goal. During the timeout the Mooresville Pioneers coaching staff made a game changing decision and sent the offense back on the field after the timeout in an attempt to win the football game. That decision out of the timeout turned out the be the call of the game. Quarterback Eli Hill took the shot gun snap and started to work to the right evading a would be tackle for loss and reversed field to the left to extend the play and found Junior wideout Cooper Jones who had worked his way down the back of the end zone for the go ahead touchdown reception (PAT- Owen Hopkins) and sealed the Pioneers 21-17 win. Mooresville opened the game scoring on their first play from scrimmage as Eli Hill connected with Cooper Jones for an 80 yard score as Mooresville took an early 7-0 lead. The Falcons cut into the Pioneers lead kicking a field goal to pull within four, 7-3. Mooresville would take a 7-3 lead into the half and would kickoff to begin the third quarter. Perry Meridian would take the lead mid way through the third, 10-7. The Pioneers answered on the ensuing drive as Eli Hill would hit Jackson Denny for an 18 yard score (PAT- Owen Hopkins) as Mooresville jumped out to a 14-10 lead. Perry Meridian was not done yet, the Falcons had an answer in the fourth quarter scoring on a one yard run to regain the lead 17-14. That is when the Pioneers would begin their game winning drive that resulted in the game winning score with five seconds to play in the game. With the win the Pioneer finished the 2026 regular season 5-4 (3-4 MSC/6th place) and will now set their sites on the post season and the start of Sectional 22 play. The Mooresville Pioneers will host the Martinsville Artesians on Friday October 23, 2026 to open the 4A Sectional 22 post season, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
