Mooresville's varsity girls basketball team erased a halftime deficit with a dominant third quarter and held on late to beat Southport, 51-47. Halle Moore led all Mooresville scorers with 14 points, and Kendal Price added 12 points and a team-high 3 steals. The opening half was a back-and-forth affair. Southport edged ahead 12-11 after the first quarter and pushed the margin to 25-23 at the break, as neither side could build more than a small cushion. The game turned in the third quarter. Mooresville's defense clamped down, holding Southport to just 7 points while scoring 14 of its own. That stretch flipped a two-point halftime deficit into a 37-32 lead heading into the final period. Southport didn't go quietly, pouring in 15 points in the fourth quarter, its best scoring frame of the night, to apply pressure down the stretch. Mooresville answered with 14 of its own, matching its third-quarter output to close out the four-point win. Millie Allison was a force inside, posting 7 points and a game-high 7 rebounds to go with 2 steals and a blocked shot. Niah Craig chipped in 6 points, while Esther Brimmage scored 4 and filled the stat sheet with 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a team-best 2 assists. Defense was the story for Mooresville. Six different players recorded a steal, combining for 11 as a team. KJ Barton added 2 points and 2 steals, Bri Addair scored 2, Madisyn Phillips contributed a point and a steal, and Kenzie Garrett added an assist and a steal.
