Pioneers Battle Hard but Fall to Whiteland

The MHS boys tennis team hosted Whiteland Community High School this afternoon in a Mid-State Conference match. The Warriors came away with a hard-fought 4-1 varsity win and an 8-1 victory in JV play. For the Pioneers varsity, Archer Query earned the team’s lone point at #1 singles with a three-set win, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. At #2 singles, Baylor Query battled before falling 2-6, 5-7, while Kolten Wilson dropped his match at #3 singles 1-6, 4-6. In doubles action, Brady McNally and DJ Enkhorn fell 2-6, 1-6 at #1 doubles, and Jared Kempf and Ben Coffey came up short 1-6, 5-7 at #2 doubles. In JV competition, the lone Pioneer win came from Landen Stoner and Grayson Furniss, who earned a 7-5 victory in doubles. With the result, the varsity’s overall record moves to 3-3 (2-1 in conference), while the JV falls to 1-3-1 (1-1-1 in conference). The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, August 30, when they host the Mooresville Invitational. First-round matchups include Mooresville vs. Mississinewa and Linton-Stockton vs. Southport at 10 a.m., with the finals and consolation rounds beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening round.
