Pioneers Edge Franklin in Mid-State Finale

The Mooresville boys tennis team hosted Franklin this afternoon for their final Mid-State Conference match of the season. The Pioneers battled to a 3-2 varsity victory, while Franklin claimed the JV match 5-0. For the varsity, Archer Query earned a 6-2, 7-6(7-4) win at #1 singles. At #2 singles, Baylor Query rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory, and at #3 singles, Jared Kempf won 7-5, 6-2. In doubles play, Kolten Wilson and DJ Enkhorn fell 4-6, 3-6 at #1, while Ben Coffey and Grayson Furniss dropped a 1-6, 3-6 decision at #2. In JV action, Gavin Cooper (3-6, 1-6), Grant Fox (2-6, 0-6), and Abram Haack (1-6, 1-6) all came up short in singles play. At doubles, Landen Stoner and Zach Meador lost 1-6, 0-6, while Traejen Asher and Ben Klopfenstein were edged 2-6, 4-6. With the result, the Pioneers’ varsity improves to 11-10 overall and 5-2 in the Mid-State. The JV moves to 8-9-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Mooresville will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, September 27, traveling to Bloomington North for a 10 a.m. non-conference match. Due to court renovations, the match will be played at Bloomington South’s courts.
